EuroAirport to build new cargo terminal at Basle-Mulhouse Airport
EuroAirport will invest EUR40m to build a new 18,000 sq m cargo terminal, at the former Basle-Mulhouse Airport in Freiburg, France.
The new terminal is being built in response to growing demand for facilities, particularly from pharma companies based in the Basel area, such as Roche and Novartis.
The construction of the terminal is scheduled to start this summer and is slated to be completed by the end of 2013.
The company said that the new terminal will help create about 200 new jobs and will replace an existing facility of around 15,000 sq m, which will undergo a EUR3m renovation to serve as a hub for express traffic.
EuroAirport spokesperson was quoted by IFW as saying that around half of the space will be dedicated to temperature-controlled storage, crucial to pharma products.
"At the moment, express operators based here, such as TNT, UPS, DHL and FedEx, are housed in different facilities about the airport, and the plan is to locate them under one roof," the spokesperson said.
