Kerry Logistics Network has acquired South Africa-based freight forwarding and logistics company, Shipping and Airfreight Services (S.A.S.), for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition enables Kerry Logistics to expand its service offerings in the South African freight forwarding market.

The new Johannesburg office will be operated under Kerry Logistics’ Europe division.

S.A.S. freight forwarding unit provides a range of ocean and air freight services, including less than container load (LCL), full container load (FCL) and break bulk services for ocean freight cargoes.

The firm’s air freight cargo services include direct air freight shipments, consolidation, and charter services.

In addition, the firm offers customised warehousing and distribution solutions to the customers in the African market.

Kerry Logistics Europe Director Thomas Blank said: “South Africa’s economy has an important standing on the African continent with excellent trade lanes not only to the Chinese market but also the large exporting economies of the European Union.”

S.A.S managing director Carla Laue said: “S.A.S. looks forward to joining the Kerry Logistics family and adding first-hand knowledge of the African freight forwarding market to Kerry Logistics’ global network.”

Since last year, Kerry Logistics has been expanding its network and services under the Belt and Road initiative. The company expanded its operations in nine countries across Central Asia.

In Europe, the company acquired businesses in Spain, Germany, Italy, and opened its first own office in Warsaw, Poland.

Earlier this month, German automotive manufacturing firm Continental extended its contract with Kerry Logistics Network for another four years.

The contract extension will see Kerry Logistics Germany handle international ocean freight export of tyres, and provide logistics services for Continental’s procurement of raw materials.

A global account management team in Bremen will supervise the work.  Kerry Logistics will provide Continental customized solutions, improving the entire efficiency of the supply chains.
