Panalpina to buy Dutch firm Interfresh Airfreight Handling

LBR Staff Writer Published 29 September 2017

Panalpina has agreed to acquire Netherlands-based Interfresh Airfreight Handling for an undisclosed sum.

Under the deal, Panalpina will acquire Dutch firm Interfresh and its sister companies Fresh Cargo Connection and Dutch Cargo Connection.

Interfresh is involved in the customs clearance and last-mile distribution of imported perishables from Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

The company is specialized in the customs clearance and last-mile distribution of imported flowers from Kenya and different types of perishables from various countries in Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

Fresh Cargo Connection serves as a fiscal representative for customers, while Dutch Cargo Connection offers services for other perishables such as fish, fruit, vegetables and mushrooms.

The three companies are said to handle about 20,000 tons of perishables air freight per year.

The companies handle perishables from Sri Lanka, South Korea, Taiwan, Canada, Ethiopia, Turkey, Colombia and Ecuador.

Panalpina CEO Stefan Karlen said: “By acquiring Interfresh we gain full control over the cool chain for one of the perishables industry’s most important trade lanes for flowers – from Nairobi to Amsterdam and beyond.

“It is also a logical transaction as the primary customer of Interfresh is Air Connection, the Kenya-based forwarder that we successfully acquired earlier this year.”

Interfresh CEO Sonja Kauffman said: “We are very proud of what we’ve achieved so far and now is the right time to secure further profitable growth, especially in the regions of Asia-Pacific and Latin America.”
